Here is the video for Class 4 in my YOUNG POETS WORKSHOP series. This class is called “How to Analyze a Poem.” These short videos are designed for kids ages 10 to 18 years old, but I think anyone would enjoy them. I’ll post video #4 on Sunday. All six episodes are now available on my YouTube channel.
I can’t think of a better way to express my thoughts about the George Floyd riots right now than Yeats did in “The Second Coming.” I dedicate this video to the hundreds of thousands people who are being negatively impacted by the looting and violence that is occurring in the aftermath of his murder.
At the request of various teachers, especially Christine Cooper Angeli at St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School and Carol Hernandez at the Murrieta Valley Unified School District, I’ve spent the last month or so creating an online YOUNG POETS WORKSHOP series on how to read, analyze, and write poetry. The short videos are designed for kids ages 10 to 18 years old, but I think anyone would enjoy them. If you’ve ever wanted to appreciate and understand poetry–or simply to get over your metrophobia (yes, that’s “fear of poetry”)–check them out. The final class (#6) will be released next Tuesday. Below is a link to the first video of the series. They are all available on my YouTube channel.
